Baby Food

Starting Jocelyn on some solids has been a fun experience so far!  I feed her a little in the morning and little in the afternoon.  Milk is still her main food, but she is getting to try out different foods, textures, and learning all along.  Some foods she has tried so far...

Avocado

Sweet Potato

Peaches

Pears

Carrots

Squash

Banana

Next on the list are Apples, peas, plums & pumpkin!

I have been making Jocelyn's food myself, and not only has it been fun, but I know what is going into her mouth, especially since I use organic produce.  With jarred food from the store, I can't be so sure :)

Today I spent a couple hours making more purees of sweet potato, squash, and peach.  I mix them up according to Wholesome Baby Food (awesome website if you want to make your own baby food!), and freeze them in individual portions.  All I then have to do is pop out what I need each day and let thaw out (OR I put it in the microwave for about 10 to 20 seconds).

After baking the peaches, butternut squash and sweet potato- I'm getting ready to blend....

Finished results of peaches...I pour into silicone muffin tins, freeze, then pop them out and put them in gallon freezer bags to store.  It has worked great for me!

Oh and here is a picture of my little 'foodie' from yesterday in her baby-legs scooting around on the floor :)

Dancing

Well, I think we have a dancer on our hands!  Since my piano has been at our house this past week, I've been playing and Jocelyn has been loving it.  The other day Jared was holding her on the couch and she started just dancing to the music.  We were both laughing SO hard!

This morning at church during the music part, I was holding J and she was kicking her feet and hands SO much and squealing.  She LOVES music.

I'm playing with one hand and videoing with the other, so PLEASE excuse the music(it isn't that good! lol!), but the video is cute :)

Jocelyn has also been sticking her tongue out a lot the last few days and really chewing on her hand and other items, so I think she should be getting a tooth soon.  Mom got out my baby book the other day and said I got my first tooth around this time too.

photo shoot and more

Here are some recent pictures from Jocelyn's 6 month photo shoot with Mae Burke Photography .  Love how they turned out! :)  The pictures really show her beautiful blue eyes

6 months of nursing Miss J.  yay! :)

Today I took J to the pediatrician for her 6 month check-up.  She is in great health (I already knew that!), weighs 15 lb 9 oz and is 25 1/2 inches long.  Here are a couple pictures from this morning...

6 months!

Jocelyn turned 6 months on Wednesday, July 7th, which is SO hard to believe!

She receives one food each day in the mornings...avocado, pears, peaches, and some sweet potato is what she has tried so far, and she likes them all!  She has yet to spit anything out/up or have any reactions.  I think the girl likes food.  She loves her mommy's milk still and nurses several times a day but for very short times.  She has become much more quick at it.  I think because there are too many other things to see and explore!  On Friday, July 8th, she started crawling some...maybe more like a scooting-crawl..lol!  It is so funny and cute :)

We are loving life with her...Her beautiful smile, funny expressions, & strong-willed personality.  I stay at home with her full-time, work part-time from home, help Jared run our own business and I attend a Bible Study once a week at church.

Gammy & Gamps came to visit Friday and brought my piano!  I look forward to playing for and with Jocelyn.  The grandparents stayed the night and we had a great time hanging out, eating at Fresco's in Watauga(awesome Mexican food!) and Old West Cafe in Grapevine (the BEST breakfast food!).  Jocelyn loves her grandparents and they LOVE her :) (I think she is a little spoiled...)

This morning we had her 6 month pictures taken.  Mae Burke took the pictures in a friend's backyard...some family pics of all 3 of us, some of her in the water, and just some of her moving around on a blanket in the yard.  I can't wait to see them and show them off!

4 1/2 months...

Yes, it has been FOREVER since I've posted.  A lot has transpired which I will write about in a separate post soon.

Jocelyn is growing and changing.  Her high pitched squeals, funny faces, and rolling over all the time make it fun.  Her 4 month appointment was on May 10th.  She weighed in at 14 lb 1 oz and about 24 1/2 in. long.  She can still wear some 3-6 month clothes, but she is mainly wearing all 6 months.

She has been rolling from her back to her tummy for a while, and then last night she started rolling from tummy to back.  It was funny to see her expression when she did it!  Jared thinks she'll just crawl anyday...lol!  I guess if she takes after her Gramps (my dad), she will be.

Here are some pics from the lat couple months...

Sleep!

Well, last night little Jocelyn slept 10 hours straight! ...from 8:30 p.m. to 6:45 when I finally woke her up because we had to get ready to go to her 2 month appointment with the pediatrician.  Wow!  I felt like a different person and she was much more rested when she woke up.  I know this may not happen every night, but if it became more the norm, that would be awesome!

Here she is on the changing table after waking up this morning...

J had a great visit with the pediatrician.  She now weights 11 lb 4 oz and is 24 inches long.  Pediatrician was very pleased with her growth, her muscle strength holding her head up, etc.  We chose not to get any vaccines yet...I just have a hard time putting anything in her little body.  We are waiting until her 4 month check-up.

...and home from the doctor:

2 months!

Today Jocelyn is 2 months!  Wow how time flies.  She is growing and changing every day it seems...making new noises, new facial expressions.  She likes to play more, and she makes us laugh a lot!

On Monday this last week, we put her in her crib in her room for the first time to sleep at night, and she loves it!  She has been sleeping in there ever since without any protest, only waking once at night to eat.  It is a wonderful blessing.  Everyone is getting more sleep :)

Here are some photos from the last month:

February 9th-
We thought this was too funny!  When her headband fell over her eyes while she was sleeping :)
 February 10th-

February 11th-
Wonder what she is thinking...lol
Her favorite sleeping position...completely relaxed
 February 13th -
Jocelyn's Great-Nana gave her this outfit.  It was SO sweet :)

She loves her daddy!
February 16th -

Smiling at daddy again!
There were a few days in February that were very snowy & icy so Jared was home from work, which was SO nice.  We enjoyed the time together :)

She has now discovered that she likes this toy.  She could lay under it and 'play' with it for hours if I let her...lol!
Usually about once a day I will take a nap with Jocelyn and this is my favorite position with her cuddled against me...

March 26th -
This was Jocelyn's Great-Nana's 85th Birthday party in Lubbock.  J and I went to Vera and spent Thursday night with her Gammy and Gamps (my parents) and then we all went up to Lubbock and stayed Friday night at her Great-Aunt Brenda's.  Then Saturday was the party.  Everyone loved on Jocelyn and passed her around.  Her Great-Nana is so proud of her!

Happy to be at the party and get so much attention!
March 28th -
I love nap times.  She is so sweet when I catch her at the right moment waking up.  Wait too long...and you just get a screaming & crying :)
March 1st-
After giving Jocelyn a bath, she spent some time with her daddy.  The look on her face is priceless...

March 3rd-

March 7th - 2 months today!

Her hands are always in fists moving!
Afternoon nap...

I will try to post at least once a week this month, rather than do it all in one day!

Jocelyn is 1 month old!

Jocelyn at one month as of February 7th.

She is now 9 lb 4 oz...beautiful...smiling...loves her parents holding her, her bouncy seat, and her swing.  She is calmed by the blow dryer (who would have thought!), she thinks it is funny when she fills up her diaper...lol, and she is very good at holding her head up. Jocelyn is getting into a routine of sleeping & eating and becoming more & more alert during the day.  We've taken a trip to the grandparents & great-grandparents in Vera and she did a great job making the 3 hour trip in the car seat (Praise God she rides well in the car).

We love spending time with her and even though there are some exhausting times, it is a very rewarding task to be her parent.

Thanks to all our family & friends who  visited us this first month, helped out with meals, and thanks for just being encouraging.  We are thankful and blessed.

Jocelyn Paige is here!

**I started writing this three weeks ago and am just now posting it.**

Wow!  I can't believe that it has been almost 48 hours since Jocelyn entered our life.  What a joy she has been and such a blessing from God.  Yes, it has been an adjustment but a welcome one for sure!  While it is fresh on my mind and I have a few minutes, I wanted to go ahead and write down her birth story...

Jocelyn's "due date" was originally December 29th.  However, that day came & went and there were no signs of her arrival.  We went to our wonderful midwife that week for an appointment and everything was normal and healthy.  Apparently she just wanted to be inside of me a little longer :)  The next 9 days seemed to go by slowly as we waited & waited for her to come.  I walked, cleaned, went up & down the stairs & she wasn't budging and was still very active inside my belly.  Jared & I kept telling her that she was welcome to come out anytime.  Jared claims she is stubborn like me...but I beg to differ :)

On Thursday morning January 6th, I had my weekly chiropractor appointment and then that afternoon at 4:00 we had our 41 week appointment with our midwife.  Everything was normal but she did say we would need to go ahead and schedule a 42 week sonogram for the next week just to make sure everything was still healthy & okay.  I asked that our midwife go ahead and check to see if I was dilated but not to do anything that would induce labor.  We wanted Jocelyn to come on her own without any sort of stimulation in order to create the best birth possible.  She checked me & I was 1 cm dilated.  After leaving our appointment, Jared and I went and grabbed a bite to eat at Fuzzy's Taco (not knowing it would be our 'last meal' out as just a couple) and then went home to relax.  I could not sleep at all that night..I found in the last couple weeks of pregnancy it was hard to find a good sleeping position and I had so much anticipation inside of me awaiting her arrival.

Friday morning, January 7th, I woke up quite early (which happened a lot the last couple weeks of pregnancy) and took a warm bath.  I then packed Jared's lunch and helped him out the door to work.  I was feeling nauseated and had mild cramps but didn't think too much about it.  Although I did have feeling that today might be 'the day.'  He had a sales appointment for work in Dallas at 9:30 (about an hour drive) and another one in Fort Worth at 1:30.  He was out the door about 7:15 to go to work.  I texted my mom about that time and told her I was having some cramping but would give her a call after she got out of school to let her know how I was doing (I did not know it at that time, but when she got that text from me, she went ahead and scheduled for a sub to watch her class that day, and her and my grandmother began to make there way to our house.  It is about a 3 hour drive).  The cramping became more intense and at about 9:00, I texted Jared to ask that he give me a call when he got done with his appointment.  I knew he needed to be home and would probably need to reschedule his 1:30.  Nothing I did would slow down the intensity of the cramps, so I knew they had to be the real deal, but I was staying as relaxed as possible.

One thing I did not mention yet is that throughout most of my pregnancy, I had been praying that the labor & delivery would be uncomplicated, quick, and pain-free, and that I would have no fear.  I had been reading a book called 'Supernatural Childbirth.' Although there was pain during the labor & delivery, it was manageable, and I believe that since I had faith it would be a wonderful delivery, I was able to handle it more with a strength that came from God.  I was not fearful but trusted that everything would work out....and it did!

When Jared got home, he fixed me something to eat, but I could not keep it or any other food down.  We went for a walk around the neighborhood and I had to stop everytime I had a contraction.  We began timing them early in the afternoon & noticed they were very consistent and only a few minutes apart, so we knew it was close.  My mom and grandmother arrived at our house in the early afternoon and were a great encouragement.  I experienced a lot of lower back contractions, so Jared used a heating pad pressed against my back to help me with the contractions.  Around 5:30, they became even more intense and shortly after- I began feeling the urge to push and I felt her head had dropped down.  It was getting close!

We were in contact with our midwife during this time.  At about 6:00 we left for Gentle Beginnings Birth Center in Hurst.  I did not think we would ever make it there!  Jared drove with one hand and I squeezed his other hand through the contractions...lol!  When we arrived at about 6:30, our midwife quickly checked my blood pressure and then I got in the warm tub that had been prepared.  It was SO nice and relaxing!

Jared, my mom, my grandmother, our midwife, midwife's assistant and birth photographer were all present for the birth.  I asked that all the lights be dimmed.  Our midwife then checked me to see how far dilated I was and we discovered that I was over 8 cm dilated!  Yay!  During all this time my water never broke, so I did not realize I was so close to delivering our baby girl.

I labored in the tub for about 30 minutes.  The bag of waters came out at this time & finally ruptured in the tub. Throughout this short period, our midwife prayed over the entire process that everything would go well and that my body would do what it was supposed to do. She was such a great support!

Following this, our midwife recommended that I get on the bed to deliver Jocelyn so that she could better protect me from tearing.  However, I did not feel that I could get out of the tub and onto the bed, so I chose to deliver her in the water. (I ended up only having a minor tear that required no stitches & healed on its own!)  On all fours and with Jared by the tub supporting me, I pushed for 27 minutes.  During these last minutes, the assistant midwife checked Jocelyn's heart rate periodically and it was always good...praise God she was under no distress! Towards the end, I reached down and felt Jocelyn's head, which motivated me to go ahead and push her entire body out in one last push.

Jared helped 'catch' our daughter and bring her up out of the water at 7:33 p.m.  When I first saw her, my initial reaction was shock that she came out of me!...and amazement at her complete and perfect body.  What an amazing experience that we would not trade for anything.  The intimate, peaceful setting and the wonderful support made it something that I will never forget.  I praise God that I was able to deliver Jocelyn in the manner that I wanted.  She is a little miracle...a gift from God.
